Chris & Kristen's Kitchen Addition

Getting what you want from limited space

Practicality With Flair

Two projects away from completing the master plan for their hip Albina bungalow, Chris and Kristen enjoyed the calm of having done their homework. They knew what they needed and they knew what they wanted it to look like. Voila! The clearer the vision, the better the product.

Small Space, Big Style

Though restricted to less than 50 ft2 by setbacks, the addition easily houses the new half bath and and back hall which allows the kitchen to stretch out just enough.

Design Strategy: Sometimes less is more. Sizing the addition to resemble a back porch and efficiently using that space preserves the original character of the house and earns cost efficiencies.

Purpose and Flow

It almost goes without saying that we want our new kitchens to be better functioning and more open. How we achieve that is a more interesting, space-specific conversation.

Design Strategy: Create more multi-function spaces; create better workspace-storage coordination. Relocating the stove allowed us to open up the doorway to the dining room and add a baking station with eating bar.
